New Jersey Compensation Bureau Back Online After Cyber Incident

The New Jersey Compensation Rating & Inspection Bureau is mostly back online following a cybersecurity event that caused it to shut down its network more than two weeks ago.

The workers’ compensation agency said it “experienced suspicious activity” on August 5 and took its systems offline as a precaution. It notified law enforcement and hired a third party forensic firm to conduct a thorough review.

The bureau said it has taken several measures to better protect systems and data including enhancing network monitoring, updating security protections, resetting passwords, and reviewing user accounts and access controls.

As of August 21, system access had been largely restored, although the agency advised that users could experience some delays and limitations going forward as it works to fully restore all services.
